ORDERING: Mail correspondence is fine, but phone or e-mail is preferred along with being much quicker. Long distance rates are very cheap, even internationally. If you reserve an item, I consider it sold. So if you need to cancel an order on any item(s) do so within 48 hours. It's only fair to me and others who might want it. I HAVE ALWAYS TRIED TO BE AS FAIR AS POSSIBLE WHEN IT COMES TO THE POSTAGE I CHARGE. I NEVER INCLUDE IN MY POSTAL QUOTES MY TIME SPENT (PACKING OR TRANSPORTING TO THE POST OFFICE) OR THE NOW HIGH COSTS OF FUEL TAKING RECORDS TO BE MAILED. SOME SELLERS DO THIS, AND IT REALLY TICKS ME OFF. THEIR TIME IS PAID FOR BY THE PROFITS THEY SHOULD BE MAKING OFF THE RECORDS THEY SELL. I HAVE ONLY ADDED MODEST AMOUNTS TO MY POSTAL QUOTES TO HELP DEFER THE COSTS OF BOXES AND PACKING MATERIAL. BUT NOW THE POSTAL NAZIS HAVE INCREASED THEIR POSTAGE RATES ACROSS THE BOARD AND HAVE MADE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THESE NEW POSTAL COSTS ARE. THEY HAVE NOT PROVIDED ME WITH ANY PRINTED CHARTS FOR THE NEW POSTAL RATES AND FINDING ANY INFORMATION ON USPS.COM IS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE. NOT ONLY ARE THEY NOW CHARGING FOR SHIPPING BASED ON THE WEIGHT OF A PARCEL BUT OFTEN THE SIZE OF THE PARCEL NOW MAKES A DIFFERENCE. IT IS ALL VERY CONFUSING. I WILL TRY MY BEST TO ESTIMATE THE POSTAGE COSTS AS CLOSELY AS POSSIBLE WHEN QUOTING YOU THE AMOUNT TO PAY FOR YOUR ORDERS. IF I OVERESTIMATE GROSSLY, I WILL ARRANGE A REFUND. HOWEVER, IF I QUOTE YOU A POSTAGE AMOUNT AND FIND THAT I HAVE GROSSLY UNDERESTIMATED MY COST WHEN I ATTEMPT TO MAIL YOUR PARCEL AT THE POST OFFICE, I WILL REQUIRE THE AMOUNT OF THE UNDERPAYMENT TO BE MADE BEFORE POSTING YOUR PARCEL. THESE PROBLEMS SHOULD NOT PERSIST LONG AFTER I HAVE BECOME MORE FAMILIAR WITH ALL THE NEW POSTAL RULES AND RATES. THIS WILL BE ACCOMPLISHED OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS THROUGH MY EXPERIENCE WITH MAILING PARCELS AND DETERMINING WHAT THE NEW CHARGES ARE BY THE KNOWLEDGE GAINED FROM DEALING WITH THE NEW RATES OVER THAT PERIOD OF TIME. PLEASE BE UNDERSTANDING WHILE I AM TRYING TO BECOME FULLY INFORMED OF ALL THESE NEW RULES AND RATES. POSTAGE AND PACKAGING IN THE U.S.A.: FOR LP'S, media mail rate is $3.50 for the first two discs; each additional disc is $.50. Priority is $8.00 for the first two discs; each additional disc $1.00. FOR EP'S & SINGLES, media mail rate is $2.50 for the first two discs; each additional disc $.25. First class rate is $3.00 for the first two discs; each additional disc $.50. Priority is $5.50 for the first two discs; each additional disc $.50. Insurance is optional but recommended; $1.65 up to $50 coverage, $2.05 to $100, $2.45 to $200, $4.60 to $300, and an additional $.90 for each $100 after that. The raw deal here is that now to make sure your insured parcel is signed for before delivery can be completed, the insured amount must be over $200 instead of the previous $50 amount. I cannot be responsible for uninsured items. POSTAGE AND PACKAGING TO CANADA: For LP's, $8.00 for the first disc and $2 each additional disc. For singles and EP's, $3.00 for the first disc and $.50 each additional disc. FOREIGN POSTAGE AND PACKAGING: This is determined by whether you wish air or surface mail. Surface mail is less than half air post but, as you know, takes forever. If you wish express mail, I will quote rates with your order. For LP's, airmail is usually $13 for the first disc and $5 each for additional discs. To Japan and Australia it is usually $15 for the first disc and $6 each for additional discs. For EP's and singles, airmail is usually $6 for the first disc and $1 each for additional discs. To Japan and Australia it is usually $7 for the first disc and $1 each for additional discs. I've done record deals in Europe, Japan, So. America, and Australia and have had few problems with the mail. However, when a problem with lost or damaged merchandise arises, it can be devastating. I will send your records exactly as you instruct. If you want them registered, I will do so for an additional $10, postal fee. Or, if you want them fully insured, I will do so and quote you the insurance costs. REGISTERING IS NOT THE SAME AS INSURING. Your records will always be packed with great care, but if you choose not to insure your items, once they leave my possession, I can take no responsibility for what our or your postal service may do to them. All custom's declarations must be the same as the insurance value; postal rules. PAYMENT: Do not send any payment until notified of what is being held for you. Payment made by money order, foreign draft, international postal money order, or personal or cashier’s check must be made to ASHLEY JOHNSON and NOT to Records Around the World. If you have PayPal, my PayPal account is records@webzone.net. I am a PayPal personal account member, therefore it is not because I will not but because I cannot accept payments funded with a debit or credit card (PayPal rules). So if you wish to pay into my account via instant transfer from your bank account or via a PayPal cash balance, there is no problem and there is no additional fee. However, if you must use either a credit or debit card to fund your PayPal payment, I have a friend who is a PayPal premier account member, and she will accept these payments for me at mojo44@webzone.net. If you must pay into my friend's PayPal account, a 4% surcharge must be added. All PayPal funded orders must be shipped by either registered or express mail or by insured mail or with delivery confirmation. In the U.S., postal money order is second best to PayPal. Personal checks and, in some cases, cashier's checks and non-postal money orders may delay delivery of your order at least 14 days. Foreign payments other than PayPal should be by either international postal money order or a foreign draft made out in U.S. dollars and drawn on a U.S. bank. Foreign payments can also be made by Western Union or Moneygram wire transfers. I can also take direct bank wire transfers (swifts). However, these usually arrive with deductions taken by large intermediary banks en route to my bank. I require an additional $25 for swifts, and if the fees taken before your money reaches my bank do not amount to $25, I will refund the difference. If the fees are more than $25, I will absorb the loss. I do not recommend sending any cash in the mail, not even by registered mail. A Spanish gentleman lost cash in a registered letter paying for records. I have had a few bad experiences personally, one in which I lost $1200 by registered mail several years ago. If this had happened to you, I guarantee you would not forget it. Even though it was registered, the postal authorities here and overseas did almost nothing to help me locate the letter containing the cash. Send cash at your own risk!
